The Science Olympiad team placed third in its recent regional competition and will now head to the state competition in Knoxville on the weekend of March 27.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, eight teams competed at Christian Brothers University. After defeating Central High School, Cordova High School, and Arlington High School, the team lost to only two opponents: White Station High School and Memphis University School (MUS).

The team took home one gold medal and three bronze medals.

Deborah Morris, the Science Olympiad team sponsor, is excited, but also nervous about the team’s bid for State.

“The competition is tough because we are up against schools like Webb, McCauley, and Oak Ridge,” Morris said.

Also, because the team is short three members, Morris encourages any students interested to join them at State.

“Someone interested in engineering would be perfect,” Morris said.

Anyone who would like to help the team out can email Ms. Morris at mmorris@scsk12.org or see her in M209.
