“It’s their time,” head football coach Bobby Armbruster says.

And with 17 returning starters, all seniors–among
them tailback Willie Matthews and lineman Stephen Carter the
Bartlett Panthers have solid expectations for the upcoming
football season.

In addition to so many returning players, fans will be
pleased to know that nine out of eleven of the players on last
year’s defense have returned. Since most of them have been
playing since their sophomore year, the returning players, now
seniors, are bringing a level of experience to the team.

“It [the team] is a much more mature bunch of guys,”
Armbruster said. ”They’ve fought the war, they’ve fought the
battles… they know what it is like.”

The big question is, though, will the Panthers be able to
improve upon last year’s 3-7 record? The players, particularly

starting tailback Willie Matthews, are confident that they will
be able to improve, stating “defense is our biggest strength.”

The 11-year football veteran seems well-assured in his team’s
ability to play the game, although Matthews admits that stamina
has been a problem for the team in the past.

”We need to work on that.” Matthews stated.

Still, expectations are high. ”It’s going to be a sweet
season,” Armbruster said, ”and I want everybody to be a part of
it.”

Fans interested in watching the Panthers and the Millington
Trojans play can catch all the action at the next home game–
Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
